The Municipal Gallery of Corfu was established in 1978 and legally recognized as a public institution in 1991. Over the years, the gallery has received many donations from local families and artists that make up its permanent collection. Some of the most notable collections include the Samartzis Collection (42 works), the Aglaia Pappa Collection (23 works), and the Philippos Markotsis Collection (12 works). Additionally, two works were donated by Nikolaos Ventouras. The gallery is located in the historic Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George in the heart of Corfu town and showcases works of art by local artists from the post-Byzantine and modern periods. In addition to its permanent collection, the gallery also hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, and cultural events throughout the year, making it a must-see destination for art lovers visiting Corfu.
