** 60 Miles Away - Approximately 1 Hour 15 Minutes** Fort Donelson is a national battlefield in Stewart County. Admission is free. The park preserves much of the original battle site, including the river batteries and the eroded remains of the fort. There is a wonderful view from the river batteries, trenches and fortifications all over to explore, and some hiking trails.

Civil War site. They do a good job here with a small museum, video tour and self guided driving tour.

Perfect for a historic picnic! The Cumberland River is beautiful and you can do the scenic self guided tour by stopping at numbered stops and call on your cell phone for information. There is a picnic area just beyond stop 3 complete with restroom facility. There is also an interpretive hiking tour. Pair of eagles nest here every year.
