An off-the-beaten-path neighbourhood pub packed with locals for when you want to escape the hectic noise of Kingsland Road. The Shakespeare has a nice cool relaxed vibe. Try the Litovel lager on tap, and settle down to watch the football on one of the large screens. No food is served in the pub, unless you want crisps or pork scratchings for dinner. But don’t worry, you don’t need to go hungry. You can order from La Barca, the excellent pizza place next door, and eat it in the pub.

THE PUB in Stoke Newington. No frills drinking and chatting but with a legendary juke box. No food but they are happy for you to order a pizza from La Barca next door to eat with your beer if you like

When we first moved to this neighbourhood, we were told by many a local that The Shakespeare is the best pub in all of Stoke Newington. And it doesn't disappoint. They don't do food however. For a good local experience, you should definitely check it out. It's also extremely kid-friendly... so unlike bars in America, for example, definitely bring them along. If it's a nice day, snag a seat outside to relax and catch some sun!
