I'd probably put this at the top of my list for favourite local places to eat - A pescatarian / vegie / vegan Japanese influenced menu that is very well priced and excellent quality. I'd recommend any of the curries and a Yuzu Soda (with or without vodka) has got to be one of the most refreshing drinks going round. The communal table works really well for solo diners or couples. Get there before 7 to grab a table.

Smith Street is a favourite for lovers of Japanese food, and this izakaya is a crowd pleaser. Order loads of dishes to share: the excellent pork gyoza, tuna sashimi salad and double-cooked pork belly with yuzu sauce. If the restaurant’s full, head to cosy Peko Peko or rock ’n’ roll-vibed Teriyaki Anarchy Sake.
