Nestled in one of Edinburgh infamous Closes, this free museum celebrated the lives of three giants of Scottish Literature - Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. Home to portraits, rare books and personal objects including Burns' writing desk, Robert Louis Stevenson's riding boots, the printing press on which Scott's Waverley Novels were first produced and the rocking horse he used as a child!

In a little courtyard, just metres from the Royal Mile, the Writers’ Museum is dedicated to all things related to the written word. Of course, Edinburgh is well known for as the home of Harry Potter author JK Rowling, but the city was also once home to great writers such as Robert Burns, Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. The Writers’ Museum is just one of the elements which contributed to Edinburgh being named as a UNESCO City of Literature in 2004

A tribute to the lives of Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. Edinburgh is rightfully proud of its writing and publishing heritage, so of course it has a museum celebrating the lives of some of its leading literary lights.
