brave the 5 k uphill hike to the top of Grey Beard Mountain, or hike the maze of trails near the parking area, find the waterfall here. If its the holiday season, take a biodegradable ornament to hang on the Xmas tree on the trail. Great hike for kids.
Out of Black Mountain follow the road signs to Montreat (NC 9). Take the road to the end where you will find parking and the trail head. There are some short hikes or the longer strenuous hike to the top of Graybeard Mountain, elevation 5360 ft.
Park at the Graybeard trailhead and take the Graybeard, Harry Bryan, and Sanctuary Trail Loop for an easier 1.6 mile loop with an out and back about 2/3 of the way through to a waterfall. Check out All Trails for detailed information.
Fairly strenuous 10ish mile out and back. View of the town of black mountain from the first overlook and uninterrupted mountains from the second. Well blazed trail. Not for the timid.
