Hop aboard one of Bournemouth’s two iconic land trains to explore the seaside in style! Not only are these cute trackless trains the perfect way to travel along the beach promenade without sapping your energy, but they’re also a great way to soak up the scenery, especially on the return journey over the East Overcliff. The scenic trains run from Bournemouth Pier to Alum Chine in the west, or from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier heading east. And, of course, they’re a big hit with young kids!

This is a little bit different from the other Bournemouth Beaches in that it can be a little less busy and is very natural. Park at the Hengistbury Head Car Park and either walk or take the the land train down (when in season) through the beautiful wooded walk, passing the harbour as you go. It will take you down to Mudeford Spit which has a great beach and many expensive beachuts. There are amenities here such as a bar, food and conveniences.

Hengistbury Head and Mudeford Sandbank www.visithengistburyhead.co.uk no booking needed Walk, cycle, scoot, or take the ‘noddy’ train from the Hiker Cafe over Hengistbury Head to the Mudeford Sandbank. This is an absolute favourite! There are many ways to explore the headland: over the top, along the beach, alongside the harbour, or along the main path. The top path and main path are suited to scooters and buggies. At the end of the headland paths, there are beach bars, ice cream kiosks, and great spots for a dip.
