Newport is rich in history all the way back to 1600's. The Newport Preservation Society was formed to preserve many of the Gilded Age mansions. Many of these "summer cottages" were built in the late 1800's early 1900's as the summer homes for the most wealthy families at that time. Go online and get tickets and take a tour and learn about how people lived in those days. These Mansions are featured in the new HBO series "The Gilded Age"

Tour one of several famous mansions from the Gilded Age in America. The most notable mansions are The Breaker and Marble House around Newport's Bellevue Avenue, but several others are worth seeing including Chepstow, The Elms and Rosecliff.
There are many local mansions and Gardens you can visit. I suggest going to the Preservation Society website and pick the ones that interest you! Green Animals is really fun and amazing to see.
