Formal gardens along Roanoke Sound commemorate the first English colony in America. Take a self-guided tour or download their app. Shady paths, antique statuary, and ancient live oaks are a respite from sun and sand.
Great spot to walk around and take in the historic gardens. There is a fee to get in.
Elaborate gardens created for your enjoyment, and as a living memorial to the time when Sir Walter Raleigh’s lost colonists lived in this very place over 400 years ago. Visit website for tour information and events.

“Enjoy the newly remodeled visitor center and the interactive activities and exhibits on aviation, historic preservation, and STEAM-based activities (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) provided by local and regional partners. Once inside the newly renovated visitor center, visitors will embark on a journey through the lives of Orville and Wilbur Wright, exploring their characters, diving into problems they solved and the methods they used that ultimately led to their first flight on December 17, 1903. Inside the Flight Room, visitors will once again be able to view the reproduction 1903 Wright Flyer - the flyer that made history during the first flight - along with a brand new 16-screen video wall!”

“Our absolute FAVORITE thing to do in Outer Banks, besides relaxing on the beach. A broadway style show, performed in an open amphitheater, this mesmerizing piece of Outer Banks tradition re-enacts the first English settlers to North America; including their expedition with Sir Walter Raleigh, establishing the colony, their relationship with the local Indians, and the hardships that ensued. ”
