A climb to this castle on top of a mountain with stunning views. Not easy, 1 H climbing up, 1,5 H going down. Good shoes required.

Montgrí Castle is a military fortification declared a cultural asset of national interest. It was built between 1294 and 1301 by King Jaume II, at the top of the Montgrí massif. The climb is a walk of (about) an hour and a half. From the castle there are the best views of the whole Empordà and the Costa Brava.

The climb up to this old castle is worth it for the view and to see a traditional castle.

The 1000yr old castle you can see from our terrace. You can park at the foot in the back of Torroella town, and hike up in about 1,5hrs. Amazing views of Bay of Roses and views back to Pals and Villa Casasia. Do the hike before it gets hot!

A tough climb to the top of the massif, but the views are worth it. Start early to give yourself the best chance of making it up in the cool of the morning. Its not the Pyrenées, but be sure to wear apropriate shoes, clothes, etc. There is no car access.
