Rainbow Falls is a more difficult trail that is 5.5 miles out and back. It's one of my favorite to hike after a good rain when the falls are most full. The trail can be muddy and there's a significant elevation gain so be prepared for icy spots during the colder months.

Abrams Falls is our go-to hike for those hot summer days. We like to wear our bathing suits and pack a towel because once you reach the falls and the pool at the base of it you'll be dying for a swim! it's only 5.2 miles round trip. If you start your day early, you can beat the crowd through Cade's Cove and be at the swimming hole by the heat of the day. We've seen bear on this trail and you will more than likely see lots of other animals as you drive through Cade's Cove.

Andrews Bald trailhead is at the base of Clingman's Dome which is another must see spot for first time visitors. If you're feeling ambitious, It's possible to do both of these trails on the same day. This is a popular trail so start your day early to avoid the crowds. Late spring to early summer is the best time to see the flame azalea and rhododendron blooms that this trail is popular for.

As far as smokies hikes go, this is definitely more strenuous than most and also one of the most popular. The Alum Cave trail to Mt. Le Conte is 11 miles round trip but so worth it for the views. This trail has serious elevation gain but that means killer panoramic views. If you travel the Trillium Gap trail instead, you may even get to see the llama train that carries supplies to and from the lodge at the top of Le Conte.

Alum Cave is a perfect stopping point on the way to Mount Le Conte. This is a 4.4 mile round trip hike with about 1200 feet in elevation gain. The cave (which is really an 80 foot concave bluff) is the best point to rest and cool off before either heading onward up to Le Conte or back down to the trailhead.

The Gatlinburg Trail is one of the only two trails in the smokies which dogs and bicycles are permitted. This trail runs for 2 miles along the Little Pigeon River. It is an easy walk, wooded and along the river with plenty of spots to set up for a picnic and several old foundations and chimneys of homesites for exploring .

Gentle wide paths. Check out the old cantilever barn and old cemetary on the way. As trail narrows you will use a couple of foot bridges at stream crossings. Spring wildflowers are absolutely beautiful! Waterfall is pretty & a very peaceful place!!
