THE MIM AND THE MOG The Museum of Mediterranean Weaving ( or Museum of Interlacement), MIM, located inside the Doria fortress, is an ideal place to preserve the ancient tradition of weaving. The intertwining of the city of Castelsardo is configured as an unwritten ancient knowledge, but still today documented and handed down by the inhabitants of the medieval village to the new generations. In the streets of the city it is possible to meet basket makers, historical and modern figures, who weave the dwarf palm, sea hay and raffia outside the door of the house. The museum itinerary is divided into nine rooms arranged on two floors. Each room has its own theme, which ranges from the bakery to agricultural activities, from home life to fishing and touching every moment of life, including tableware and articles with a magical or religious function. The MOG, Museum of Genoese Origins, is dedicated to the history of the city of Castelsardo. It represents a link between the Museum of the Mediterranean weaving inside the Doria fortress and the Diocesan Museum, inside the crypts of the Cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate. The entire museum itinerary, which is still in the final stages, illustrates to its visitors, through explanatory panels, sites and monuments of cultural interest in the area of Castelsardo, proposing itself as a promotional portal for the Anglona area.

Doria Castle is one of the most fascinating fortresses in Sardinia. A first fortification was founded in 1102, the castle as such only in the thirteenth century (probably around 1270) by the noble Genoese Doria family as "Castel Genovese" with great strategic importance. Until the 15th century, the city and the castle were the seat of the Doria family and served to dominate the possessions in northern Sardinia. In Castelsardo there was an influx of Ligurian and Corsican population groups. The Dorias later joined with the Giudicato of Arborea, the last most powerful of the Sardinian judges by marriage of Brancaleone Doria with the Sardinian heroine Eleonora d'Arborea. Conquered in 1448 by the Spaniards of the Crown of Aragon, the castle was then called "Castel Aragonese", the place became a royal city ("Royal city of Sardinia") until 1479. From 1767 and with the dominion of the House of Savoy, the castle and the city received the current name Castelsardo. The ancient walkway of the guards is still practicable in some places, and the fortified points of Bellavista, Manganelo, Sperone and a Loggetta are visible. From the terraces of the castle you can admire enchanting views of the Asinara island.

Co-cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate Unmissable because of the panorama overlooking the sea. The Madonna Enthroned on the main altar of the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, is an important Renaissance painting even if it probably attracts fewer tourists than the Diocesan Museum / Museo Maestro di Castelsardo, housed inside the underground crypt, where there are skeletons and the Treasury of the Cathedral. The church of Sant'Antonio became the seat of the bishopric of Ampurias in 1503. The current building derives from the renovations carried out between 1597, at the behest of Bishop Giovanni Sanna, and the 18th century. The consecration of the temple took place in 1622 by the bishop Passamar.

Nuraghe Paddaggiu, Castelsardo SS In Sardinia there are about 7000 nuraghi. It represents the most significant find of the area dating back to the Nuragic era, which developed in Sardinia starting from the Bronze Age (circa 1800 BC) until the 2nd century BC in full Roman times. On a slight relief, 15 minutes by car from Castelsardo, is the nuraghe Paddaggiu, a complex nuraghe, formed by a bastion and two side towers. The tholos is still intact, the entrance is rather underground, on the right the passage niche on the left the staircase leading up to the top of the nuraghe. In the tholos there are three niches arranged in a cross, at a certain height there are spaces between the stones that probably supported a wooden mezzanine to exploit the upper part of the tholos.

Conquered in 1400 by the Spanish, it was baptized Castellaragonese and for about 300 years it belonged to the kingdom of Spain. From 1720 it was reconquered from Italy by the Savoy family, definitively becoming Castelsardo in 1102 by the Genoese Doria family. it is difficult to find such beautiful villages. Originally there was also access from the sea, called Lu Grannaddu* and from where a steep stairway between the walls allowed the climb towards the city. * In the 15th century this was called "Mandracho del socorro” (in Spanish), because it enabled supplies from Genoa to be brought to the village during sieges.
