Spring! Dizzying views of the Hudson River! Sweet cabin modest in scale, simple and pure to not detract from the richness of the views, offering a fresh, invigorating sense of just what is needed, nothing more. The rugged primitive siding was harvested from on-site cedar trees; the knotty pine interior was locally sourced. Friends gifted a claw foot tub and historic farm house sink. Enjoy a hot tub experience in our new Japanese spa. Wood fired pizza offered most nights.
“La cabina es espaciosa para dos personas, con todo lo que pueda necesitar para un gran fin de semana. La vista desde detrás de la cabina donde la hoguera es aún más hermosa que las imágenes. Leslie fue excelente para comunicarse con nosotros y nos trajo más suministros para fogatas cuando los necesitábamos. Nos encantó nuestra estancia!”
Located just across the upper Hudson from the Hamlet of North Creek, our mountain home sits overlooking the bridge, where on his way to the North Creek train station from a camp near Mount Marcy, Theodore Roosevelt was met with a telegram informing him that he would succeed William McKinley as President of the United States after his assassination. Across the bridge sits downtown North Creek and approximately one mile away are the Gore Mountain ski bowl and Adirondack Railway station. The Saratoga North Creek Railroad trains run multiple times daily to Saratoga Springs, and our home is just 3 miles from the Gore Mountain base lodge. Just a few of the great places right over the river on main street are the North Creek Depot Museum, Cafe Sarah, barVino, Barkeater Chocolates, Trapper's Tavern, Lorenzo's Italian Restaurant, the Barking Spider bar, and shopping at the Hudson River Trading Company and Foothills gift shop. The Adirondacks boast ones of the longest fall foliage seasons in the country. Watch as rich autumn colors travel from valley to mountain peak. Experience the subtle shift of air as summer bursts into a colorful array of reds, purples and yellows – and watch as the seasons change before your eyes. As August wanes across the six-million-acre park, the leaves begin to change, eventually bursting into full color beginning in the Adirondack Mountains in early September. The best time to see fall foliage in the Adirondacks is September - October. Throughout the fall season there are historical evenings with Teddy Roosevelt in North Creek, Jazz weekends in Lake George, foliage festivals, Lake George Restaurant week, the Adirondack hot air balloon festival, and September brings the Gore Mountain Leaf Cruncher Run, a 5k trail run through the trails surrounding the base area of Gore. Be sure not to miss the Annual Gore Mountain Harvest Festival in October on Columbus Day weekend for a HUGE ski sale, rock climbing wall, bungy jumping, live entertainment, scenic gondola rides, and general merrymaking! Local vendors sell Adirondack furniture and art work. Have our entire home to yourself with three bedrooms upstairs: one master with a queen size bed, one guest with a queen size bed, and one guest with two twin beds & a full bed. In the living room there are two couches, one of which pulls out into a full bed. There are two full bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The entry/mudroom has a washer and dryer, boot and glove dryers, and large cubbies for skis and hiking equipment. There are hardwood floors throughout the home, a wood stove as well as oil furnace, a 65 inch smart TV with 7.1 surround sound. Granite countertops, stainless appliances, dishwasher, tall dining table great for entertaining, outdoor fireplace, gas grill out back, and tons of parking. You don't have to tell your in-laws but you can read their emails while hiding away at our mountain retreat because there is high speed internet at the house. In the winter the ski lifts turn 7 days a week, but there are also miles upon miles of trails for snowshoeing and snowmobiling, as well as ice skating and nordic track at the North Creek Ski Bowl. Some of our favorite things to do and places to go during the warmer months are riding the revolution rail, white water rafting on the Hudson River; The Adirondack Museum; mountain lakes like Blue Mountain Lake, Raquette Lake, Minerva Lake, or Thirteenth Lake; hiking up Crane or Prospect Mountain (or any other!); hiring a guide to take you for a hike or a special local fishing spot; kayaking; golfing; driving to Lake Placid or Fort Ticonderoga; dining & shopping in North Creek; having a camp fire; swimming in Lake Abanakee; playing tennis on the open air courts at the North Creek Ski Bowl; or exploring some of the surrounding small towns. Our home is 3 hours 50 minutes from New York City, 3 hours 57 minutes from Boston, 2 hours 35 minutes from Montreal, 1 hour 27 minutes from Lake Placid, 30 minutes from Lake George. If you are not familiar with Gore, Karl's dad would be more than happy to show you around the mountain, glades, back country trails, and other winter hikes.
Located on Peaceful Valley Rd approximately 2 miles from the hamlet of North Creek, this cabin is the closest lodging to Gore Mountain. It is only 1/3 mile from the ski center entrance. However, the cabin is a year-round destination that can be enjoyed any time. It is situated close to the west bank of the North Creek, which is quite enjoyable for fishing, wading or observing the abundant wildlife.
