Views to die for in this southerly point of South Devon. Great food at the newly refurbished Gara Rock hotel.

We HIGHLY recommend this trip! From Salcombe harbour (opposite the Victoria Inn) take the little water taxi across the estuary to East Portlemouth. These are the gorgeous sandy beaches you can see on the other side of the estuary from Salcombe. Gara Rock is a restaurant which has just been done up…

A fabulous setting. Recently refurbished and opened. Catch the ferry to East Portlemouth and walk to the hotel. In peak season the hotel organises transport to the hotel but do check before you book.

Great place to be . Especially nice if you incorporate it on a walk.

“Just down the road, south and brewery tap room, cafe, shop, little garden centre. Great beer and lunch stop.”

Bar
“The Millbrook Inn is the award-winning pub in nearby South Pool. Known for supporting local farmers and fishing, its menu changes according to the season. We’ve enjoyed fantastic evening meals and Sunday lunches alike here. It isn’t a big place so you’ll need to book a table – you can do this by calling or using the online booking form. ”

Restaurante
“So good! Bring your own booze. Either eat in or grab takeaway from the hatch and sit by the sea. We love it here, best fish and chips around and great crab salads. Actually all the food is good and great value. We often grab fish and chips from here and eat them in the garden.”

Natural Feature
“One of the largest beaches Salcombe has on offer, with a huge expanse of dry sand. There is a stream running down one side of the beach, which is the perfect playground for children; building moats around castles or dams. During high season there is a food bus parked near the National Trust car park (free to members), selling delicious snacks and drinks. Accessible by: Jumping onto the Salcombe to East Portlemouth passenger ferry and then a short beautiful walk along past Smalls beach at low tide or take the coastal lanes. Alternatively, hire or use your own boat to access this beach. Closest toilets are at the back of Mill Bay. Dogs allowed all year. ”
