Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore hugs the south shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It's known for the dramatic multicolored Pictured Rocks cliffs. Unusual sandstone formations like Miners Castle and Chapel Rock define the park’s headlands. Twelvemile Beach has a trail through a nearby white birch forest. Remnants of shipwrecks dot the shoreline around Au Sable Point’s 19th-century lighthouse

A day trip to Munising to visit this National Lakeshore is well worth the trip! See some of the most spectacular views Lake Superior has to offer. You can stop at the National Park office when you get to Munising for maps and suggestions for hiking. If hiking is not your thing, taking a boat cruise or kayaking along the cliffs is also amazing. If you do head to Munising, be sure to stop in Falling Rock Cafe for some coffee and ice cream, browse the wonderful selection of new and used books they have. They have frequent local live music as well!
