This is the beating heart of climbing in the northeast. 1000 routes, wild exposed moderates, amazing harder climbs, short approaches, and a friendly, welcoming climbing scene. If you've never been the Gunks, are coming here for climbing, and want any advice or suggestions, I've been climbing here for 30 years. There's also amazing biking and walking in the Preserve, up to the Mohonk Mountain House (which is separately owned) and even beyond. A good starter outing is Undercliff/Overcliff — from the West Trapps parking lot, follow signs to the Uberfall and keep walking all the way to Rhododendron Bridge, then veer left onto Overcliff, which will take you back to the bridge over 44/55 and the parking lot.
