Oldest public art museum in the US (1842). The Gothic Revival building that houses it is worth seeing alone. Noteworthy Baroque,Surrealist, Hudson River, Impressionist collections, colonial furniture.

The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art is the oldest continuously-operating public art museum in the United States, founded in 1842 by arts patron Daniel Wadsworth. Just an amazing collection of things to see.

This is one of my favorite art museums in Hartford. It is a quick 8 minute drive away (plenty of Ubers available in this area). This is a large 3-story art museum with tons of American and European art. They also have 2-3 special exhibits that change from month to month. Entry is free every day from 4-5pm, and there is free parking on weekends.

The Wadsworth Atheneum is an art museum located in Hartford, Connecticut. The Wadsworth is noted for its collections of European Baroque art, ancient Egyptian and Classical bronzes, French and American Impressionist paintings, Hudson River School landscapes, modernist masterpieces and contemporary works, as well as collections of early American furniture and decorative arts.
