City Park Grill, one of Petoskey’s oldest buildings, was originally constructed in 1875. McCarty Hall, as it was then known, was a males-only billiard parlor that offered cigars and “intoxicating beverages.” The storied history includes tales of prohibition, speakeasies, underground tunnels, of young Ernest Hemingway, and ghost sightings. City Park Grill has a nice selection for fine dining as well as an inviting environment at their long historic bar with a seat designated where Ermest Hemingway sat in his day. Ask about their speakeasy tours that are given seasonally.

The place where Hemingway used to write - if you enjoy good food and history, this is a great spot in Petoskey! When you walk into City Park Grill you'll see the beautiful hand carved wood bar where Hemingway used to write, and even his old cigar burn on the wood. They often have live music, and also give tours in the cellar area on various days that show some of the gangster history in northern MI.
