San Francisco is very proud of their cable car system. It is the last manually operated system in the world today. Nearly all of the people that ride the cars today are tourists looking to try that something different when in town. The first of the cable cars was opened in in 1873 and due to their popularity and the money that the owners were making more lines were added. In 1892 the first electric streetcars were made and so the decline of the manual car began.

The San Francisco Cable Car (6.7 miles) is still an "SF Treat" to ride and an excellent way to experience the City of SF. On Powell and Market Streets in Union Square, you will find the booth for ticket sales for the Cable Car. You can hop on board the cable car and head down to Fisherman's Wharf where you can visit Ghiradelli Square or enjoy an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista.

The best experience to ride a cable car at San Francisco. You can either sit or stand on the outer side of this cable cart where you can actually swing out. Enjoy the going up and down hill of SF. Just be patient on the long wait, overall is worth it!

Great fun riding cable car from the Powell street turn table to the Fisherman Wharf! Many sights to see.
