Ancient almshouse for the 'nobel poor'. A beautiful walk along the River Itchen. A beautiful chapel and brothers hall to look at. Ask for the Wayfarers Dole, a now token meal that used to be provided to passing pilgrims.

The oldest (1133) and the largest medieval almshouse in Britain. It continues the ancient tradition of the Wayfarer's Dole which consists of a small cup of ale and a piece of bread provided on request from the porter. The grounds are just magnificent. You may recognise the Master's Garden used in archery scenes in Wolf Hall TV programme.
