After you check in and get settled, the Visitors Center should be your first stop! Such friendly, helpful people and lots of free and nearly free brochures. It's also a wonderful shop with reasonably priced gifts for all ages and, dare I say, souvenirs (!!) I know we said no t-shirt shops, but we can definitely recommend this place! They have loads of books about the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Cades Cove, and Black Bears. The rangers working in the shop are a wealth of knowledge and you can get all your questions answered and hear timely recommendations BEFORE you enter the park and realize you have no phone service. A MUST see as you begin your Escape TO Reality!
