The history of pho is not ancient: although there is little written history. It is believed that this delicious noodle soup came in to existance after French colonisation - it is the French who popularised the consumption of red meat. The word pho is also believed to be a variant of the French "feu" (meaning "fire", which has identical pronunciation to pho). Tthe French also have a traditional beef stew called "Pot au Feu", made from slowly cooking cartilaginous pieces of beef for many hours under low heat. The rice noodles and mixed herbs used in the dish are of Chinese influence. from the Dragons Host.

Mr. Yosuke Masuko, owner of Pizza 4P’s restaurant, was a former financial strategist from Tokyo. In 2008, he moved to Vietnam to work for a financial venture in Hanoi. Soon he began finding ways to strike out as an entrepreneur and developed a love for this dish. He and his Japanese employee has been self-taught cheese making by watching videos on Youtube with the purpose for his pizzeria, then he started his cheese-making business right here in Vietnam. He later traveled to the motherland of pizza in Italy and other European cities where he learned how to make pizza. Having inspired a passion for traditional wood-fired beauties in his native Tokyo, Mr. Yosuke Masuko has shaken up Saigon

Drinks & Nightlife

Let me just start out by saying that if you want to get a glass of wine in District 1, there should be no other conversation happening other than: “What time do you want to meet at Brix?” I had no idea going into this establishment how excited I would end up leaving, having found a place to find a Gruner Veltliner (beautifully crisp Austrian white wine), a bar manager that knows his stuff, and a menu that is the perfect size with variations that actually make sense in a cheese bar concept. We sampled the amazing beers of Heart of Darkness. My favourite was the Primeval Forest Pilsner, but the Pitiless Folly Pale Ale, Sacred Fire Golden Ale and Kurtz Insane IPA were amazing in their variety and complexity. Vietnam is a huge beer consuming society; the bar has been substantially raised. Sailor1003 from the Dragons host

Jade Emperor Pagoda was built in the period 1892-1900 and covers an area of 2,300 m2 following Chinese architectural design. In 1984, the pagoda was renamed Phuoc Hai Tu (Luck Sea Temple), but locals still preferred the old name ‘Ngoc Hoang’ (Jade Emperor) since the sanctum is to worship the supreme Taoist god. The pagoda is filled with parallel sentences, triptych, altars and statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes depicting characters from both Buddhist and Taoist Lores. This is the only pagoda in Vietnam possessing the ancient paper statue which represents the meetings of the Jade Emperor and other Gods. Ngoc Hoang Pagoda was visited by U.S President Barack Obama

At the turn of the 20th century, this magnificent building, designed by French architect Ferret Eugene, was built as a classical opera house with 800 seats to entertain French colonists. Anyone who has been to France can recognize many similarities between the Opera House and the Petit Palais. In fact, just like the Reunification Palace, the applied ornament, balustrades, cartouches, and roof were imported directly from France. After 1956, the house functioned as home of the Lower House Assembly of Southern Vietnam. It’s not until 1975 that the opera house was restored to its original purpose of use.

Turtle Lake today used to be the center of ancient Saigon Gia Dinh, long time ago. Before the year 1975, the South Vietnam government of President Nguyen Van Thieu decided to build Turtle Lake in 1967. There are many different mysterious stories about his decision. However, all of them have some similar points about a dragon under the ground of Saigon. This story about a Master of Feng shui, he came and told President Nguyen Van Thieu that there was a dragon underground of Saigon. And based on this story, the dragon’s head was under Independence Palace (on Le Duan Street today) and its tail was actually at the location of Turtle Lake today. Independence Palace (Dinh Độc Lập), also known as Reunification Palace (Vietnamese: Dinh Thống Nhất), built on the site of the former Norodom Palace, is a landmark in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It was designed by architect Ngô Viết Thụ and was the home and workplace of the President of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. It was the site of the end of the Vietnam War during the Fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975, when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through its gates.
