Self driving tour, just inside the National Park boundaries. See historic cabins, wildlife (hopefully a bear!), and beautiful views. We love to take a drive on this in the early evening because its less crowded and you have a good chance of seeing wildlife. There are also many trailheads along the route, but be sure to plan your hike ahead of time and be prepared (water, map, etc).

Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
Roaring Fork Motor Nature TrailSelf driving tour, just inside the National Park boundaries. See historic cabins, wildlife (hopefully a bear!), and beautiful views. There are also many trailheads along the route, but be sure to plan your hike ahead of time and be prepared (water, map, etc).

Its an 11 mile, one way loop, that offers the best opportunities to see the native wildlife such as deer, bear, fox, turkeys, and more. Several historic churches and cabins are along the way as well. We recommend stopping at the beginning to purchase a $1 guide book. When finishing the loop, turn right toward the campground and park ranger station to get to the general store and have an ice cream cone or snack! There's also a great picnic area along the river with charcoal grills that you may use. Allow a minimum of 4 hours (2 hours getting there and back and 2 hours to tour).
