Parks & Nature

This state park is close by and great for any time of day nature. There are picnic benches and grassy areas for picnic, lounging and playing. And the Aiea Loop Trail also starts from here for great nature hike. The hike is about 3.5 hours walking but its really cool because you get to see almost every climate found in Hawaii.

Its no secret but its hardly ever crowded because it seems steeper than it is. You get to the tide pools by taking the Makapuu Ligthhouse Trail. Before you get to the top, there's a trail on the right that takes you down to the water for a quick dip. Ask me for better directions so you don't get lost.

Super secret beach. It seems like you shouldn't go down this road but its public and open to everyone. I go with my kids and wife because there are never any crowds and it's so so beautiful. However, if there are too few people, it can feel a little isolated. Be aware of your surroundings and if you don't feel comfortable, don't go. I think when the very limited parking is full, the beach is at its best. Also, good for having a picnic at sunset!

This is my favorite place to go with my family. The tide pools are safe with a ton of fish. Shark's Cove is perfect for snorkeling, bbq grilling/ picnics, or just hanging out. Its filled with locals and tourists. Easy to park and find right off the road. Grab some lunch from the food trucks across the street and you'll have a perfect day. Just like every other ocean activity, you need to be aware of your surrondings and pay attention.
