The park was made after the war as a memorial. It is close to the atomic bomb's center detonation point. A yearly ceremony is held on the day the atomic bomb hit (August 6th) to pray for peace.
平和を願う記念公園として、爆心地に近い場所に作られた。原爆が投下された８月６日、毎年式典が開催される。

The statue is modeled after Sadako Sasaki. When learning of her passing, Sasaki's friends decided to found the monument as a memorial for the children who died from the diseases caused by atomic bomb.
像のモデルは佐々木禎子さんという。彼女の死を知った友人たちが、原爆の影響で亡くなった子供たちを追悼する意味で像を建てることを決めた。
