Impossible not to visit Pompei once in life! Amazing! Very easy to reach with the circumvesuviana from the central station in the 2nd level down.
Mind that it is very long and tiring to visit the entire site!it is huge! You might choose what to visit.
During the summer it is very hot bring water with you and a hat!

Herculaneum is marvellous! And very well conserved! You will be able to see the burnt wood too! It is smaller than Pompei, less tiring and wonderful.
