Peaceful, serene and a place of utmost beauty and calm in a major African city. You forget you're in an incredibly busy and bustling area of the city. Highly recommend a visit.

If you want to learn more about the history and the strife and challenges Kenya has been through and overcome and what East Africa was like nearly 100 years ago... Pay this place a visit. When I stood next to the train tracks that were laid down when the East African Railway was being built... I was overcome by emotion and an incredible sense of grief for what our forefathers went through during that time. Great animals on display also.. Fun day out for the kids and adults too.

Shopping

Less than 10 mins walk from the apartment is this lovely shopping complex that has a pharmacy, a small supermarket, a butchers, bakery, opticians and more (including a lovely restaurant called Charlie's Bistro which had great cocktails). Highly recommended for small household bits and food shopping including fresh groceries.

I mean is there ever a reason not to visit? Lovely mall with a number of places to shop from including both large international supermarkets (Carrefour) and restaurants as well as local shops, eateries and bars. Highly recommended

Other than being yet another great place to shop, there is nothing more powerful than seeing the resilience and absolute determination of a nation to overcome grief and tragedy. Kenyans would not and did not allow the atrocities that occurred at Yaya to defeat them. There's something special about this mall, go have a look for yourself. Its a bit smaller but there's good local arts and crafts on offer, great food court with local and international cuisines and again great options if you're out shopping.

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

Uber & Bolt are the fastest and easiest way to get around

Probably the most secure as well. Book the journey on your phone and make sure you communicate with the driver to let them know where you are headed. I advise to get a local sim in order to keep costs down when calling.
Qué debes empacar

Summer / hot weather stuff 100%

Although during August the temperature tends to dip down a bit, I'd still recommend summer / hot weather clothing for travel to Nairobi. Bring a light jacket or jumper in case it get cooler at night. It gets dusty quickly so I recommend black or brown trainers or leather shoes which might be easier to clean. Warm clothes for the night is something I recommend as it can get cold in the night.
Frases útiles

Slang / Local dialects

Phrases like 'niaje' (pronounced ni-ah-jee) - which in the equivalent to what's up? or how you doing?... Will take you a long way in Nairobi. If you're in the City for a while 6 months or more, then I advise to learn a few phrases to help you move around freely. Kenyans are a friendly bunch and we love it when someone makes an effort to try to fit in with the locals.
