It's rare to find a restaurant that serves four-star-quality cuisine at an affordable price. 20 Feet Seafood Joint is a casual alternative to the stuffy luxury dining scene. There’s nothing quite like Lakewood Smokehouse, the newest restaurant to open in Lakewood Shopping Center, in the neighborhood. There’s Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum and Oasis Smokehouse but this is walking distance and is known for fresh BBQ. We describe it as “upscale barbecue,” although don’t think that means your kids aren’t welcome. It’s still a barbecue joint, after all, and they have a $5 kids menu. What this means is everything on the menu has been meticulously prepared, from the popular sliced brisket and ribs right down to the cheesy corn bake and hand-breaded fried okra. They don’t serve yesterday’s meats. They cook ribs throughout the day. All their meats are smoked fresh. And, get their smoked cheeseburger. Most smoked cheeseburgers taste like overcooked, dry meatballs. This burger is finished on the grill, and it’s enriched with deep smoke and good beef flavor. Get it with cheddar or Swiss, if you’re looking for a sharper cheese. There’s thick, still crispy bacon on top of the patty. Red onions, lettuce and tomato rest underneath, accepting meat juices into their open LTO arms (medium rare is the way to go). They also come with some of the best french fries in Lakewood.

Caesar with white anchovies (and extra croutons) at Cane Rosso 7328 Gaston Ave. , No. 100 Drop that Whole Foods Caesar in the trash can. (Why are there so many damn crows at the Lakewood Whole Foods?) Instead, get the large version of the Caesar salad at Gaston’s Cane Rosso, which is situated brilliantly behind a UFC gym. Flakes of fresh Parmesan and fried croutons — insanely addictive crunch — topped over lettuce is best devoured while in sight of the UFC gym. What makes the salad special: The bright, lemony white anchovies (you have to ask for them).

The Regina Margherita pizza at Olivella’s 6465 E .Mockingbird Lane, No. 525 One of the best pizza pies in Dallas is the margherita, with house-made mozzarella, tomato sauce, a mild and nutty white cheese and basil. The pizza’s best with a simple arugula salad on the side, tossed lightly with olive oil and salt. The peppery arugula, when dropped over the fresh tomato pie, makes it sing. We have been here several times. They have a very complete menu and I have yet to have a bad meal. Serving sizes are generous. I particularly like the salads and pasta dishes. Whenever we come here, we order from basically every category (pasta, sandwich, burger, pizza, soup and salad). I like the Roasted Vegetarian pizza and sometimes the BBQ Burger. Also good is their Tuna Salad Sandwich, Sundried Tomato Penne, Pesto Chicken Breast Pasta, Pasta Fresca and Vegetarian Sandwich (I order this often). I like their Tomato Basil Soup. The Caesar Salad is good, but it has too much dressing for my liking.

If the saying about judging a Mexican/Tex-Mex/Latin restaurant by its chips and salsa is true, then it will only take you a couple of seconds to know that you're in for a treat of a meal at MM. You know those perfect chips - not too thick but not too thin that they break when you dip them in the salsa? They've got 'em. The salsa is SOOO flavorful with just the right amount of heat. If the weather permits, their patio is where you want to grub down. It's covered and comfortable! The ceviche is soooo good - bright, fresh, and full of seafood. The Del Mar enchiladas are incredible. And, I don't know what they do to their rice but seriously, I've never had rice so good. Ah-maze-zing. The enchiladas are fab too - stuffed full of shrimp and crab and covered in a creamy tomatillo sauce - so good you'll want to order take-out.

What a gem of a place! I wish there were more restaurants like this. I love the fact that you can get scrambled eggs anytime of day, in many different menu items. I usually have the egg scramble with Buffalo, spinach, scrambled eggs, onions, mushrooms, guacamole, and salsa. Friends usually order the scrambled eggs and chicken fried steak. They have a special jalapeno jam mixed into this recipe, which gives it a slightly sweet taste. Very unique. Everything on their menu is gluten-free except the toast, pancakes and biscuits, but you can get gluten free versions of those as well. All of their beef is grass fed. They even make their own Kombucha! I had to the pineapple super greens. They also offer a good selection of gluten-free desserts.

At Nora, in sleek, contemporary decor punctuated by cream-colored capiz-shell chandeliers and gold mosaic tiles, chef Matt Pikar lavishes attention on traditional dishes from Afghanistan that take you far from Lowest Greenville. Plates are handsome, with dustings of paprika or dried mint and swaths of yogurt. Warm flatbread had a tanginess I’ve found only at the most authentic Afghani markets. On a menu where lamb is king, vegetable dishes also shine; pumpkin is a golden child. As an appetizer or entrée, its tender, steamed flesh comes cloaked in garlicky yogurt and a meat sauce redolent with tomato, garlic, and spices. Dried mint is the savory note pulling everything together. Our table was collectively smitten. Stewed lamb korma had similar depth, its rich, mysterious sauce hiding dried plum and lentils. It’s one of many stews served over Afghani rice, whose long, slender grains are silken. Rice worth rhapsodizing. Kebabs are attractively presented over saffron rice with raisins and curls of shaved raw carrot. A kebab’s shrimp, boldly rubbed with sumac, pepper, coriander, paprika, and garlic, was tough and over-salted by far. Rosewater overpowered firnee, a dense, sweet pudding. But the Kabul Mule cocktail’s rush of cardamom was a welcome trip to the spice bazaar. And if this food doesn't fit your palate, then the upstairs roof bar will. You'll enjoy sitting by the fire pit overlooking the entire downtown panoramic view of downtown Dallas while enjoying an excellent array of drink offerings.

Exquisite taste and quality of Mexican food. Expansive menu includes traditional Tex-mex, and all kinds of seafood and sauces and meats. Good luck deciding. It is all delicious. I like how you can order really good tasting cooked vegetables and also baked potato as sides and can loose your mind picking out Mexican flavors and seafood (fish, shrimp, ceviche). Lakewood's got a new 'round-the-clock option for pancakes, eggs, and booze: Local diner favorite Buzzbrews is located at Skillman and Live Oak. Expect all the same menu favorites as the other Buzzbrews locations, including stuffed crepes, banana nut pancakes, and the beloved "Mr.C" (a chorizo and cheese scramble with a side of garlic potatoes). The bar here is considerably more well-stocked than the other Buzzbrews locales, with more than 30 craft beers on tap plus wine, mixed drinks, and perhaps best of all, cold, bubbly prosecco on tap.

Goodfriend Beer nerds pay attention. Goodfriend has one of the best patios for dorking out on suds. If a local brewery is going to release a special issue beer, there's a solid chance it's on tap here, often before the other bars even take delivery of their kegs. Mix in the strong neighborhood following and the massive roll-up doors that bring the patio weather inside, and you've got one of the better places in Dallas for drinking, whether the heat of summer has arrived or not.

Katy Trail Ice House Katy Trail Ice House is sometimes so big it's overwhelming, but if you're an Uptowner at heart, this is where you'll want to spend every outdoor Rangers-watching session you can fit in till they win the pennant this fall. The coolers keep a nearly all Texas line-up of beers icy cold, and on weekends they bring out the smoker.

The Rustic For whatever reason, most of Dallas doesn't exactly feel like Texas, unless you're drinking at The Rustic. There's usually a country act on stage, and cowboys from far away have been known to come all this way just to court Uptown girls. Not feeling social? The basket cheeseburger at the Lakewood Landing 5818 Live Oak St. It comes in the red plastic basket, and for me, it’s the perfect dive bar romance cheeseburger. It’s nothing special — griddled beef, just juicy and greasy enough to soak into the soft bun — cheese, bacon, mayonnaise and pickle. It’s the neighborhood’s dim bar, Johnny-Cash-jukebox, flaking-away booth burger. With a cold beer on my left and a burger basket, I always feel at home at the best no-bullshit bar in the city.

A gibson and bar snacks at the Balcony Club 1825 Abrams Road A night can begin or end beautifully at the Balcony Club, next to the Lakewood Theater, which is now a historic landmark. Jazz sizzles at the Balcony Club, and martinis are crisp and refreshing. Skip the numb Tex-Mex of Mi Cocina. Go for a gibson on the Balcony, if you’re in the mood, which is gin and vermouth and a pickled onion, and their endless supply of salty-crunchy bar snacks. The lights of the theater, and your Lakewood home, will be at your back. Bonus: People-watching from the Balcony is always fun — especially with Ginger Man across the street.

I have found stuff from Vera Bradley, The Sak, Tommy Bahama, Brooks Brothers, Zegna, J Crew, Banana Republic, Coach, TUMI, West Elm, etc. They have a huge collection of vintage cookbooks and kitchen items. Looking for 1980s dance recital costume or a 1960s mink stole or a US Bicentennial polyester necktie by El Hombre? They've got it.

I really don't want to like Tuesday morning. I don't understand the name, and with all the estrogen in the air, it reminds me of a depressed or hung over, but in shape and slightly tanned, single woman in her 50's laying in her king sized bed on a Tuesday morning in stylish designer sheets of a label that this place sells the leftover versions of, at a discount. Okay, maybe I do like it. I have something for MILFs, what can I say? But with today's purchases of a fuzzy red striped good quality bath matt for $10, shower curtain rings for $5, and a soft nicely designed beach towel for $15, I think Target has some competition. Garden stuff, generic wall hangings and household wares in general at a supposed discount. It's not always that cheap, despite the very garage sale ambiance. It's all about the feminine hunt. Watch anything on lifetime while you're unloading you're purchases.

They have a good mix of modern and vintage which is ironically the new modern. Everything is so clean, dust-free and nicely arranged. You completely forget you're in a consignment shop. You'll want to touch everything. There are a few signs on the things that they'd like for you to avoid touching.

There is a lot to love about Playtri. Let's start with bikes, they have one pretty much for every budget, whether you are a cyclist or a triathlete. They even have fixies! Are you a triathlete? They have everything you can possibly need. I already mentioned their bikes, but how about everything else you need? Wetsuits, skin suits, goggles, paddles, bike helmets, jerseys, shorts, shoes, sunglasses, running shoes, hats, body glide! Everybody needs body glide. Do you also need nutrition? They have that too, electrolytes, gels, etcetera. How about training? Do you need training advice? Whether you're training for your first sprint or your tenth Ironman race, this is the place to be! This is you one stop shop for all things triathlon! Last, but certainly not least, Playtri is a huge supporter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through their Team in Training program. LLS has benefited tremendously through their continued support over several years!

I love this all-things-Dallas unique and original gift shop. I walk by on a daily basis and stop in about once every couple weeks. They always have something new to see and the custom Dallas t-shirts are really funny. Lots of other unique gifts and art work too. Get your Dallas (and neighborhood) pride. It's a great place to people watch too.

This place is awesome! The employees were very friendly and helpful. But, most of all, the prices are amazing. The items I purchased are about $8 cheaper here than they are at Whole Foods. They also give you samples if they have any in the box. This place really has everything you need if you are into natural herbs.

Great experience at the Luke's Locker on Gaston! Needed new running shoes. I've been running about a year and have worn my first pair out. I'm no where close to long distance or expert level running, so the idea of going to pros to get fitted was a little intimidating. Another runner directed me specifically to this location. I'm so glad they did! The store itself is very nice and everyone there is very knowledgeable and friendly. Sean helped me out and determined exactly which shoe worked best for my running preferences and foot. I asked a lot of questions and learned some helpful things about running during the process too. It was a great experience and not at all intimidating. I left with shoes I love and will definitely go back here for all my running needs.

After a horrible shopping day and bad customer service at other local boutiques my friend and I stumbled upon Milk & Honey. Talk about a BLESSING! Not only was the staff super friendly and social, but the second I had an item in my hand to try on, it was taken to the dressing room. The girls helped with outfit ideas knew exactly what we had in mind when describing outfits. This place was a breath of fresh air! Super cute and trendy boutique. They also keep there Instagram and Facebook up to date, sometimes even with hidden discounts! Seriously, can't say enough about this place. Will definitely be returning and recommend everyone check them out!

Pretty interesting thrift shop. Jimi Hendrix (the owner, who always has wine and a record playing it seems) has a huge collection of random stuff and the wares he has seems to change a good amount from month to month. There is art, movies, record players, records, clothes etc. etc. I recently bought a record from here two days ago and it plays just fine, I like stopping by and going through his records and finding a new gem. Also in the past I have bought (what I like to think) stylish blazers to wear out and about or even work. Though Greenville may be overtaken by Uptown crowds, I think Jimi's place will always be a nice refuge.

Buffalo exchange is the greatest "thrift store" in the Dallas area. Every time I go it is packed with fun, hip Dallas locals. They have a wide variety of clothes to choose from and the best part about it you are going to leave with a gently used item that no one else has.Sure the price sometimes can be a little spendy but for me it's worth it. I really like to find pieces that are fun, trendy and unique and you will definitely find that when you come here. They have both men & women clothes shoes, purses, jewelry etc. They have a lot of name brand things as well as brands I have never heard of. My favorite part about them..wait for it...THEY DO NOT OFFER BAGS. Instead they give you a token to donate 5 cents to one of the three charities they support.

I stopped in The Gypsy Wagon after a friend recommended it, and am so glad I discovered this store. It's my new favorite boutique in Dallas! Whether you're going to try on clothes or just perusing, you can spend quite a bit of time as this shop is full of goodies! The front half of the store has a great selection of home goods, stationary, and jewelry. You can find seasonal items, cute girly things, and Texas/Western items. As you get deeper into the store you come to the clothing. While many of the clothes are very bohemian, you can find great pieces and accessories (especially leather goods) even if Boho/Western isn't your personal style. The home goods and knick knacks are pretty affordable, and most of the clothes/handbags are a bit pricier. The jewelry really varies in price, and you can find pieces as low as $20. LOVE LOVE LOVE this boutique and can't wait to stop back in next time I'm in town.

I had to have some towels embroidered and didn't know where to go. I found this business and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. She was able to get my order done in two days and had tons of fonts, colors of string, and lettering to choose from. The owner is extremely professional and friendly and went out of her way to make sure I was happy. It was a little more expensive than I would have thought, but her work is phenomenal! (Just fyi, she doesn't take credit cards and the actual location is 718 Buckner Blvd.) I would highly recommend her services and would definitely go see her again for my embroidery needs. Awesome business!

This is the only world market I've been to in Dallas but I'm pretty sure it is also the best. The store itself is run down on the outside, in a long series of strip mall type stores along greenville north of Lovers. Once inside though, it contains all of the glory that a world market should exhibit - cheap reasonably classy furniture for students/people on a budget, carpets, international foodstuffs (e.g., Sriracha, packaged non-perishable indian meals for one, tiny salamis and cheeses), beverages of every variety including microbrews, small batch soda runs, wines from all over, and sake. They also have the ubiquitous asian candy aisle (POCKY!), a kitchen wares section that has cheap and super useful bits and pieces (like bakewear, basil scented handsoap, salt shakers, wine glasses, etc.), and a few aisles with toys and other nicknacks. This is a great store to go into on a weekend when you feel the need to waste some time mindlessly shopping but don't want to actually blow your wad buying things. If I come here, I can spend an hour looking around in delight and leave with $20 of items, whereas at Target that hour frequently costs over $100 and I leave feeling like I missed so many things! At World Market you'll feel like a kid in a candy store, and actually be able to buy what you want with your measly allowance.

I've been a customer of Canal Clothing for nearly three years now. It's a fantastic place to shop for unique and well-made clothing. I've never had a personal shopper until I met Mary Ann, the owner. She has such a sense of style and gets to know you and your likes. Now, when I go to shop, she calls me by name and starts pulling things off the rack to show me. She's persuaded me to try on things I would never have chosen myself, but they look good. There's not a thing I've bought that doesn't get a compliment, followed by "where did you get that?" If you want a boutique shopping experience but not at the high-end prices, check it out. The selection of blank pants alone is worth the trip.

Actually there are two shops; one for men and the other for women. HD is on my list of the top ten coolest dudes in DFW. He has a vision of where fashion is going, and he's usually about 2-3 years ahead of the curve. His secret (he'll tell if you ask) is that he travels to Europe and sees what they're wearing over there. Then he shrewdly determines what to buy, and he brings it back here. You'll find a wide array of tops and jeans and well everything. If you see a top that fits, you better get it now because he only orders four of each top (Small, Medium, Large and XL). He does this so you don't bump into yourself on the street which can happen a lot in this town if you shop too much Banana Republic. If you snooze, you definitely lose, but luckily HD has a layaway plan that will buy you more time to think about your purchase. For you ladies, HD also has a women's clothing store that is equally hip and two doors down from the Men's store.

Great for outdoorsy, yoga and travel items, as well as cool books and gifts for your smart, funny friends. Whole Earth Provisions is the perfect stop, whether you actually need something, or your hunter gatherer instincts are just surfacing and you want to pass some time shopping. I also really like their shoe selection. When I was preparing for a trip to Germany, I was able to find some travel accessories here that REI either doesn't carry, or were simply out of. I was also able to find gifts and goodies to take as host gifts to our German family. The location is convenient to my job, so that is a bonus. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the check-out process tends to be quick and simple.

I need to remind myself that Stein Mart is there. Every time I swing in to see what they have I find all kinds of cute things! They have a great home selection of decorator items & linens. I always see something cute that I think would make a great gift for a friend and several things for myself. The jewelry and watch selection is large. Mostly costume jewelry and name and no name brand watches. You are sure to find a cute pair of earrings or a necklace to go with any outfit. The accessories selection is larger than most places. Unique items and cute gifts. The shoe selection has a great variety from dress shoes to boots and sandals. Clothing is high quality, designer names and a large selection.
