Corsham is a small, but pretty and historic town about 15 mins away. Home of Corsham court which is privately owned, but open to the public part time - check their website for details. The Methuen arms is a good pub in Corsham, but there are other good independent restaurants and cafes there too. Parking in the town carpark is free for 2 hours, but you still need to display a ticket, or you will be fined.

Bath is the only city in the UK which is a UNESCO world heritage site. It's beautiful, compact, and great for shopping and eating. About half an hour from us by car, there are several car parks. The biggest and most central is the Charlotte st car park BA1 2NE. It's also easy to get there by train from Chippenham

An aqueduct carrying the canal over the valley in wonderful countryside near Bradford on Avon (25 mins by car from us). Kayaks can be hired from the Lock Inn café (which also does really good all day breakfasts) . Or its about half an hour walk along the canal; or you can hire bikes from Towpath Trail Bike Hire. Our favourite local pub, in Ford, just the other side of Castle combe. It can be combined with a great circular walk through the woods of about 2 hours with the pub half way. (route in the book of walks in the Barn) or drive there in 5 mins https://whitehart-ford.com/

Just outside the main village and more of a locals pub, the Salutation is a mile and a half from us, but please don't try to walk there along the main road - there is a bridleway (Summer Lane) that runs parallel, which is a nice walk (half an hour) and not so dangerous.

Walking

There are lots of great walks in the woods around the village of Castle Combe, directions of how to access them are in the property, along with a book of local walks. Please note though, that the walks are popular and get muddy, so do bring appropriate footwear. For longer hikes The Cotswold Way is a 102 mile trail from Bath to Chipping Campden. A lot of it runs along the Cotswold Escarpment, and has great views. The best place to pick it up from us is at Tormarton, (10 mins drive) and then head north for a great walk through parkland and woods with far reaching views.
