Library Cabin: Thrift Store Tour

Thrifty shopping

While setting up the library cabin, I became intimately familiar with thrift stores in the area. Here are my recommendations!
Technically speaking, this isn’t a thrift store. But this small boutique 15 minutes from the cabin has a ton of furniture, odds and ends, antiques, and more with great prices. It’s a good warm up for a longer thrifting trip, and a lot of the furniture in the cabin came from this place. Highly recommended!

Mercy House, Timberville: This tiny and somewhat new thrift shop is a smaller extension of Mercy House Harrisonburg. It’s tiny, but has a good selection of clothing. It’s only 20 minutes from the cabin, so there’s no reason not to stop in on your way in or out of town.

This is a top tier thrift store -- extremely well organized, large selection, good prices, constantly changing selection of items. A good fraction of the books in the library cabin came from their extraordinarily well stocked book section (it’s almost half the store!). If you only go to one thrift store on this list, make it Gift and Thrift.

Located 5 minutes away from Gift and Thrift, if you’re going to go to one, it makes sense to stop into the other. Mercy House is a bit smaller than Gift and Thrift, but has great prices and a good selection. They also have a building dedicated to architectural and building material salvage items -- a rarity in the area.

A smaller, strip mall thrift store, but with decent selection and good prices. Worth stopping at if you’re in that part of Harrisonburg (such as to go to Goodwill), but check their hours first to make sure they’re open!

It’s a Goodwill, with all that entails. Big, good selection, decent prices. We’re getting a bit far from the cabin at this point, but if you’re in the area anyway, it’s definitely worth stopping in.

Not a thrift store, but a large antique mall with a great selection. I usually tag it onto my Harrisonburg trips, because you can find great stuff there, but it’s at a higher price point than all the thrift stores.

This thrift shop supports a local group home, and if you're heading north, definitely is worth a stop in.

Not to be confused with Gift and Thrift in Harrisonburg! If you're up in Mount Jackson, this place is very close to the Search thrift shop, and it always makes sense to stop in both.
