The pizza here is so good, and it's just down the block from the Icon building. You can also order it for takeout. The pizzas are huge and thin crust! Our family likes the meatball pizza. They also have a full bar and great drinks.

We love the fish and chips, and the drinks! Our favorite part of eating here is sitting on the outdoor patio on a beautiful day.

If you have kids or just love games and yummy food, you should come here. They have bowling, karaoke, darts, jenga, board games, pinball, and much more. If you want to bowl or do karaoke you should reserve ahead of time. Fun atmosphere. (Mostly adults here, less kids, but it is still fun for kids.)

Amazing margaritas and tacos! I'll be honest -- we mainly come here for the margaritas and guacamole. The restaurant has bright, modern decor and is mostly outdoors in the very cute Headquarters complex which has some other restaurants, gelato, and cute boutiques. It's right next to Seaport Village and is only a 10 minute walk from the Icon building.

There are lots of amazing restaurants in Little Italy, but this is my favorite due to their consistently good food and the adorable back patio with an olive tree in the middle. Our favorite dishes are the polenta (a soft mascarpone polenta surrounded by ragu), the fatbread with soft cheese and honeycomb, and for dessert, the goat cheese cheesecake with salted carmel. SO GOOD. The house chianti is great at well.

This is a great place to hang out on a beautiful day. It's a relaxed place to get quality mixed drinks on an outdoor patio overlooking the ballpark and Ghallager Square.

There are a lot of great coffee places in San Diego, but this is our go to coffee shop because it's so close to the Icon building. There are others nearby- H.O.B coffee and L'opera Coffee - but we usually go to Copa Vida. They have a full breakfast menu and a walk-up coffee bar. Plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoors. A 3-minute walk from the Icon.

So good, and open later than other nearby restaurants. My favorite is the Tajima ramen, and my husband loves the Carnitas ramen. It's about a 10-minute walk from the unit.

Callie is a great, upscale Mediterranean restaurant in the East Village near the Icon building. You will need reservations! If you don't have reservations, you can sit at the bar and eat your full meal there. We like to order the Mediterranean Feast, which is a five-course menu chosen by the chef each night.

This is one of our favorites if you want to enjoy a nicer meal out! We particularly love to sit at one of the bars along the kitchen and dessert staging area. The chefs will talk to you and you can watch them prepare the meal. A fun experience! This is also a great place to go and just grab a drink at the bar. We recommend ubering or taking FRED from the Icon building.

If you are craving a full breakfast in the East Village, this place is great! Matt likes the chilaquiles, and Meagan likes the Power Plato breakfast (eggs and chicken sausage). The breakfast potatoes are particularly good here. They also serve lunch and have grab&go coffee and pastry options. If you are an architecture buff, you can check out the white building right next door (from the outside). This building with white painted bricks and "juicy joints", called Torr Kaelan, is the home and office of architect Robert Quigley. He is the architect that designed the iconic downtown San Diego library and many other public buildings around town.

If you have young children (8 or younger), take them here! It's huge - three levels of unique exhibits for kids to explore. It's interesting for adults too - the building is gorgeous and was designed by local architect Rob Quigley. It's flooded with light and many of the areas open to the outdoors. In front of the museum is a free play area and garden. You will need to reserve tickets in advance due to Covid.

You can catch a ferry to beautiful Coronado Island from the convention center! It's a 10-minute walk to the ferry landing near the convention center. The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes, and on the Coronado side, you can rent bikes or visit one of the many restaurants and boutiques. There are also beautiful beaches on the west side of the island.

Cabrillo National Monument has AMAZING views. Highly recommend. There is also a historic lighthouse that you can enter and read about San Diego history. There is a great tidepooling spot at the base of the monument which you can drive to and park at separately. You will need to check the tide schedule (contact Meagan if you need advice on this). Winter is the best time for tidepooling!

Balboa Park! This is a great place to spend the day (or night). We recommend ubering from East Village, or even walking or scootering since it is very close by. Parking is very limited and hard to find. There are many museums in Balboa Park, walking trails, a rose garden, restaurants, an organ pavilion, and a historic theater. The organ pavilion is very large and has 5000 pipes! There is a free outdoor organ concert every Sunday at 2 pm. We enjoy eating at the Prado restaurant (make reservations) or Panama 66. The Prado is set in a lovely old Spanish building, and is a San Diego landmark. Panama 66 is a causal brewery/restaurant set outdoors in a sculpture garden. We love both! We also highly recommend the Old Globe theater in Balboa Park. They have both an indoor and outdoor theater with performances throughout the year.

Beautiful coastal community located 20 minutes north of East Village. Two restaurants that we like in this area are Georges (upscale) and Dukes (casual). Both have stunning ocean views. You can check out the famous sea lion rookery nearby, or browse the shops on Prospect Street
