This is a most tranquil and beautiful place to visit, if you can take a couple hours to just relax into this masterfully designed nature space. It is a meditative environment, which encourages visitors to slow down mentally and be in the engaging present moment.

This, to me, is a must do, for any vacationer who has not experienced this Portland jewel and likes beautiful hikes, in a verdant park setting. The broad spectrum of trees are labeled for identification, which adds a nice touch to this educational nature experience. Trails are not difficult, but interesting and have varied flora and terrains, which stretch and weave a complex trail network. Washington Park, home of Hoyt Arboretum, connects to the massive trail system in Forest Park, the largest urban parkland in the country.

On a hot summer day this is a special cool narrow gorge environment to hike. You are walking in a stream bed up to a beautiful water fall. One short segment may require a swim or wade through. Expect to get wet and wear the right footwear and attire. It is a micro environment with rare plants on the gorge walls.

A historic site about 90 minutes from Yurtlandia. Fort Clatsop has been reconstructed to it's original plan and is the place that the Corp of Discovery Exhibition members set up and wintered in 1805 after finding the Pacific Ocean a few weeks earlier. There is a stunning realistic statue of Sacagawea, the Shoshone women who at 16 years old, helped guide the expedition, at times. There is a perfect picnic area snuggled into a dense pine rain forest. This destination is very easy to find while you are traveling to it. Their is a great interpretive program at the Visitors Center, which is quite nice and also has bathrooms and a gift shop.

One of top ski areas. In the summer months offers a reasonably priced ski lift ticket up to 8 miles of newly developed alpine hiking trails. We recently hiked here in August, 2021 and absolutely loved our day. A good way to escape a hot day in Portland and experience the Grandeur of Mt Hood. The wild flowers and mountain streams we encountered were magical.
