Located on the Eastern tip of False Bay, Pringle Bay is known for its beautiful white-sand beach surrounded by mountains. Hangklip (454 m) rises above the town, which also forms part of the Kogelberg biosphere reserve. There are no street lights, and residents are encouraged to preserve the coastal vegetation. Hiking in and around Pringle Bay

Trails in and around the town include the Hangklip circular route, which takes you to the top of the peak, and coastal trails starting either side of the Maasbaai slipway. Hangklip is the one to do if you have good weather and strong legs! The trail starts at the end of Stream Road. From the slipway, head left and you'll reach the Sea Farm trail, maintained by Sea Farm Private Estate, which eventually leads to Silversands Beach in Bettys Bay. Head right and you can follow a trail that passes the Hangklip lighthouse before crossing two very pretty beaches - Blokbaai and Moonlight Bay.

Hiking in Kogelberg and Harold Porter

The Kogelberg nature reserve has three wonderful trails, suitable for different fitness levels. The Palmiet river walk is flat and offers swimming opportunities in summer. The Oudebosch trail takes you up a gorge through beautiful indigenous forest before descending into the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens in Bettys Bay (leave a car at both ends). Harold Porter also has several shorter walks, and is open into the evening in summer.

Swimming at the main beach

Pringle Bay has a long, sandy beach with good swimming in calm sea conditions. Watch out for the shorebreak if the swell is up, as well as for rip currents. At high tide, the small cove to left of the walkway is often a more protected swimming spot. The river on the far end of the beach is also safe to swim in, and good for children to splash in.

Old Coastal road from Pringle Bay to Rooiels

The old coast road between Pringle Bay and Rooiels is a good choice for a flat walk, trail run or mountain bike. Access to the Pringle Bay side of the road is from the R44 just the other side of the river - coming out of town, turn left onto the R44, then left again after about 400m, and park at the boom gate. The walk is about 5km each way.

Alpacas

DJ, Mickey and Truffles are three friendly alpacas that live on an open plot at 1015 Elizabeth Road. Take a long small cut pieces of apple and carrot (no larger than 1cm cubes) to feed them. There is also a donation box at their enclosure for the Pringle Bay Fire Brigade.
