landlocked we are, but the Palatinus Strandfurdo is a great place to spend the day on a man made beach. Some 10 open entertainment pools, water slides, many small eateries (deep fried Hake, the ubiquitous hungarian Langos with sour cream garlic and cheese et al.) Gets busy in the summer and a nice alternative to the thermal baths that can be a little crowded

Food Scene

Best coffee and cake selection in town, with a sunny and green garden in the non tourist part of town. Take the Budapesti Fogaskerekű Vasút (budapest cog-wheel train) from the Varosmajor station and get off up the hill at Svábhegy. Enjoy the coffee cakes and then off for a long walk up to Normafa and Janos Hegy for stunning views over all of Budapest and beyond.

this place used to be called Apa Cuka and is a few minutes stroll from the flat. It has been renamed recently to Almarium Bisztro and has already incredible ratings. The food is very good, their set menu is good value and they have a big selection of wine and drink. The restaurant is built into a glass atrium in the courtyard of a well kept building. I recently had the pleasure of dining here and would recommend it to anyone for a first stop.

quite probably the best hand-made icecream I have ever enjoyed. all the standards available and also some specials like gorgonzola, camembert - don't knock it until you have tried. They are all mouthwatering and great to eat while walking along the Andrássy út boulevard.

best city panorama bar ever. 360 degree views across pest and buda, especially beautiful in the late afternoon and early evening. aperol spritz takes off the day's heat and watch the sun go down - perfect. Tip: get there before 1800 because shortly after, they start charging for entry to the roof terrace!

Everything Else

Definitely off the tourist trail, rent a bicycle and join the cycle track from Buda northbound along the danube or take the HEV suburban railway from Batthyany ter... if you are so inclined. Make a stop at Fellini Romai Kulturbiztro and sit peacefully on the banks of the Danube river and enjoy a cool drink in the sunshine. One of my favourite secret spots! Enjoy, but keep it a secret :) Prices are low, service is good and everybody is friendly and relaxed.
