GROCERY STORES
We personally find this to be the most expensive grocery store, but that may be because they offer a good array of specialty items. Great Kombucha selection, produce, cheeses and bakery. It's also one of the closest food stores (Food Lion is one block closer). Also has a sub shop & hot bar decent for grabbing a bag lunch to take to the beach. Good produce and a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. Always clean, very friendly staff.

Publix Super Market at First Flight Square

Technically the nearest grocery store. Budget friendly and will have what you need. Nothing too fancy; decent deli, BIG store....
No self checkout at this KDH location (but there is self-checkout at the Kitty Hawk location.)

Huge store, great prices. Go here if you plan to buy a lot of items or need beach things you may have forgotten. Our Walmart actually has a lot of vegan/vegetarian & organic options that are much lower priced than other area grocery stores. Though we hate going here, it's really the most affordable with the largest variety. Go early in the morning, or late in the evening to avoid major crowds.

Walmart Supercenter

Harris Teeter

Our 2nd most frequented grocery store. Our total here is always less as the prices are much lower than other stores. They also have a little less to offer. Not as many organic or vegan/veg options but enough.
Lately, due to Covid, they seem to run out of things frequently.

Best variety of specialty items in our opinion but not too far off from the variety at Publix, just further away. Nice baked goods and sandwich/salad bar. Lots of organic, healthy brands and vegan/vegetarian and GF options. Probably the closest thing to a Whole Foods style grocery store.
