Sightseeing

Greenwich Park has great views over London and is very close to lots of great pubs and places to eat. Its a great place to check out the sunset. It's also very close to Greenwich Market which is located in a WHO site and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00-17.30 and packed with arts, crafts and food. You can walk to Greenwich in about 45 minutes or walk to New Cross Gate (15 minutes) and take the 177 bus and get off at Greenwich Station.

This lovely little park is located 5 minutes from the house and has amazing views of central London with landmarks such as The Shard, The London Eye and the BT Tower clearly visible. It is a particulary nice place to view the sunset especially in the warmer Summer months. There are also free to use tennis courts-just bring your own racket and tennis ball! There is also the Lower Park which was opened in 1895 has a farmer's market every Saturday from 10.00-15.30.

Spend an afternoon walking along the famous South Bank of the Thames and taking in famous sights such as Shakespeares Globe, the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Start by taking a train to London Bridge from Brockley Station (13 minute train ride). Make your way to Borough Market and grab a takeaway coffee at the famous Monmouth Coffee Company in the market (its not unusual to see queues around the corner but worth the short wait!). From here make your way to the bank of the river and follow it down towards Westminister Bridge. Its worth having a look at the old ship outside The Old Thameside Inn located by the market first. Admire the sights and stop on the way to visit the Tate Modern Museum and to go to the top floor of the OXO building and take a stroll onto the balcony (there is a bar at the top but no purchase is necessary to access the balcony or use the restrooms). This 3km walk will probably take about 40minutes. From Big Ben, you are 1.5km (about a 20 min walk) from Leicester Square, Soho, Picadilly Circus and Oxford St. Or if you prefer not to walk all the way to Big Ben, you can cross before Westminister Bridge at the Golden Jubilee Bridge to arrive at Trafalgar Square which is close to Leicester Sq and China Town. I'd probably recommend a beer in O'Neills Wardour St after all that walking!
