Food Scene

Best bet and value for quick, warm, inexpensive, no-frills, authentic Mexican food 24/7. One block away in a small deli/bodega style nook with communal seating. Often packed late night with quirky locals. Delivery available. Try the Mamey milkshake and a veggie enchilada or burrito.

The second most authentic Malaysian restaurant in NYC, after Curry Leaves in Flushing Queens. A short subway trip from home to Manhattan's most interesting neighborhood, Chinatown. Try the vegetable Curry Mee noodle soup with yangtaufu. Afterward, grab an exotic flavor at the Original Ice Cream Factory around the corner and take it for a walk around the narrow historical alley streets like Pell and Doyer. And don't forget the elder street musicians at Columbus Park.

This is my favorite park in Manhattan, because of the elderly street musicians who congregate on benches to play antique traditional instruments and sing old songs in Chinese from Mao's glory days. REMEMBER TO PUT A CASH TIP IN THEIR VESSELS. Then wander thru the park, past the crowd of elders playing boardgames.

Take a stroll along this heavily pedestrianized drag between Myrtle and Flushing Avenues. it is the Hispanic hub of north Brooklyn. Stop by Maria Hernandez Park for more people watching.

The most eclectic dance bar I've ever been. An international crowd grooving to mainly Balkan music with every genre you can think of thrown in.
