This is a 18 acre multi-use facility in downtown Richmond, adjacent the City Hall and one of the mojor shopping centres. Also close to Skytrain. I have been familiar with the southern, improved (library, pool, cultural centre) for years, but only recently discovered the ponds and trails on the northern end near the hospital.
What a hidden gem!
As my photos, and the photos of others will show, there are asphalt trails winding through and around the lagoons. Interspersed are benches for catching one's breath, or simply resting, meditating, and communing with nature.
The only danger noted (at least during daylight hours) was the Canada Geese who seem to think they own the place.

For years I have made my way out to Iona Beach for the long walk which can, at times, leave you exposed to the elements. While some basics have been added (shelters and washrooms along the jetty) for the most part this is a pretty 'bare bones' park and experience.
The lagoons or ponds to the east of the jetty are worth the exploration as well as the flats and grassy lands to the north. Watching planes approach or depart is always fun and there is usually plenty of wildlife around to watch.
