You can get to South Bank easily by the public trains that run from New Malden to Waterloo; South Bank being a five to ten minute walk from waterloo station that is well signposted. This strip of amenities by the riverside is buzzing evenings and weekends, often with food traders, outdoor markets and fairs. It is also the location of some British cultural institutions like the BFI - British Film Institute, who show interesting film screenings and talks. Not to mention the National Theatre, that runs thought-provoking new theatre from young playwrights. As well as the Royal Festival Hall, an iconic music venue that is the yearly site of the Meltdown Festival, this year curated by Grace Jones! To walk a little further down east will take you to the Tate Modern probably one of the greatest modern art galleries in the world- the new wing is particularly noteworthy. Finally Shakespeare's Globe is also within walking distance and runs a favourable program of Shakespeare's works.
