Places to Visit

From head to toe, Antigua is the quintessential, picturesque destination for tourists coming to see Guatemala. With its cobblestone streets, ancient ruins and Spanish Colonial architecture, Antigua offers more than enough to see and do for everyone. Antigua also boasts endless regional as well as global food choices, and a myriad of shopping opportunities. After a day of exploring, San Lucas offers a relaxing retreat from the noisy and sometimes crowded nature of Antigua for those that enjoy the quiet and a bit more privacy.

Ciudad Cayalá

If you love the city, I can't recommend Cayalá enough. It's a high end outdoor shopping center with world cuisine, as well as bistros, great coffee selections such as Starbucks Guatemala, in addition to its exclusive shopping offerings encapsulated in gorgeous Italian and Colonial influenced architecture. Safe enough for tourists in the city, it's about a 40 minute drive from San Lucas, but it depends on traffic. Be sure to consult Waze (it's the navigation app locals use) for the best route and time estimates.

Sightseeing

For the nature lovers! Though the entire country is as beautiful as a national park, Senderos Alux is a national park about 10 minutes away from San Lucas. It's great for hiking or nature walks, but they also count on zip-lining, eco lodging and camping in certain seasons. They're open from 8am to 4pm Tuesday through Sunday.
