One of the most famous hills around Florence, very close to the city which makes it's a nice little trip, especially for half a day. The view overlooking the city is spectacular, there's a Roman amphitheater that deserves a visit, and a beautiful central piazza where you can enjoy a cappuccino. The walk up to the San Francesco Convent is totally worth it, the view is memorable.

A famous piazza in town, where the Santo Spirito church overlooks, contoured by many local bars and restaurants. The church is worth a visit, it's facade is incredibly beautiful because so simple when compared to all the other churches in Florence. The piazza is bustling with locals during the day and transforms itself at night, especially pleasant on warm summer nights where many locals gather around its fountain to share a drink and a laugh. There is a local market with fresh produce every morning, and the weekend one is every second Sunday of each month.

One of the large local markets in the city, slightly deviated from the chaotic center but still in a central location. Frequented mostly by locals, go here if you want to experience local market life, buy good produce grown in the hills around town, and avoid all the tourist scams. Also, the area is super lively and a lot of really good restaurants are easily found.

If you're interested in medicinal plants go and visit this incredible garden and lose yourself amongst all the species that are present and meticulously cultivated. Right in the center of town, this hidden gem is exceptionally beautiful in the spring time when most plants are blooming.

For another superb view of the city, a great panoramic view which makes awesome keepsake pictures, the Abbazia di San Miniato al Monte is one of the most beautiful (and visited) places in town. Make sure you check out the inside of the church (not allowed during mass hours), but especially the cemetery right behind it. Other than being a very peaceful and beautiful place, many famous people are buried there, and many curious tombs to look at.
