The Kalø Castle Ruins!
King Erik Menved (1274-1319) had the castle built after he had defeated a Jutland peasants’ revolt in 1313.
It is the oldest middelage paved road in Denmark leading to the Castle Ruins of the 700 year old Castle, situated on the small peninsular Kalø. In the surroundings of the ruins you may find medical herbs originating from an old medical herb garden.
The most famous prisoner held at the castle was Gustav Vasa, who was imprisoned here from 1518 to 1519, when he escaped. Gustav Vasa was later to become the King of Sweden. Until the introduction of an absolute monarchy in 1660, Kalø Castle served as the manor for all of Djursland

Slagter Kruse is the local Butcher in Tved since 1889. It is a price wining and recognized butcher in all Denmark for the quality of both meat (beef, veal, pork and lamb) and the homemade delicacies.
The meat is from local farmers including cows living in parts of the forest of the national park.
Among the delicacies you find pate, sausages, smoked products and much more.
A variation of cheese can also be bought in the shop.
Here you can also order and buy a great variation from the Danish Smorgasbord.
The service is great and you can ask for advice of all sorts of cooking, barbecue etc.
