Avoid the hassle of parking in DC -- take the metro!
The Silver Spring Metro Station is on the Red Line, which can take you directly into DC.
If you're looking to get to National Mall (Smithsonian museums, Washington Monument, etc.), you can hop off at either Union Station, Galley Place/Chinatown, Judiciary Square or Metro Center stations.
Red Line is also connected directly to Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and other popular DC neighborhoods.
If you're looking to take the metro to/from DC or IAD, you can connect to the Red Line via the other lines (Yellow, Blue, Orange, Silver). The DC Metro website is a great place to map out your route!
