You must book!! It gets incredibly busy. Great cafe with a small amount of outside space. Massive afternoon teas (ask for a box to take the bits away that you can’t eat) All round good food...it’s a bakery too. They have branches in Longframlington, Longhoughton and Shilbottle too.

I used to go to the Marina a lot, then, due to Covid it was closed down. Currently, they have a small food menu available and usually decent beers. Best time to go is to watch the sunset...it falls behind Warkworth Castle and you can see all up the Estuary one way...and the Marina and the sea at the other.

A very special place...a tidal island...please google for the safe tide times before you go and don’t be tempted to try to try to beat the tide because you won’t win!! People are rescued by the RNLI virtually ever week in the summer.

When I was small, my dad brought me to Kielder...at the time it was lovely, pretty rolling fields and hedgerows and a rather nice village. He told me that the valley was going to be flooded to create a reservoir. At the time, it seemed crazy to me, however now, Kielder provides most of the water needs for the North East of England. It’s also massive! Great walks...a sky observatory...stacks of water sports ....and on dark, lonely nights, it’s said you can hear the church bell ringing mournfully from the old village that was flooded....😂

Pretty gardens with a good coffee and gift shop. Don’t forget to visit the treehouse and have a walk in the woods. Please note...this place is always heavily promoted inAlbwick and is quite expensive for a family. For a cheap alternative...park behind the Playhouse (free with a parking disc) ...you can walk through to the Gardens from there...have a look through the gate at the waterfall...visit the gift/coffee shop...the kids can play on the treehouse and walkways in the trees...have a walk through the woods....all of this is free!

This is a private airfield...you can sit and watch the small planes taking off/landing and have a coffee and sandwiches/cake. They also offer private flights for sightseeing and flying lessons. It’s a bit hard to find with no signs up yet...it’s pretty new...put it into your sat nav ...Eshott Airfield clubhouse...it’s only a couple of miles from Lakeside Lodge. Also, there’s more planes to see on a weekend...you can often see them flying over Felmoor Park. Great sandwiches, cake and coffee too!!!

Simply the best book shop in the world. It’s home is the old railway station…a very atmospheric building. Look out for the little railway that runs around the ceiling. There’s a good cafe and ice cream shop there too.
