If you are visiting Hill City and need a place close by to take a dip and cool off, Sheridan Lake is only 5.5 miles away from our vacation rental. It has a swimming area and fishing for trout and Northern pike. Great scenery too.

If you've never been to the black Hills before, I'd say this is worth a visit. I like to go in the evening for the lighting of the faces.... Admission is free, parking is $10. To make it a more scenic drive take the "old hill city road" from our house (the start of the road is only a block away) to Keystone. On the way back take 244, you'll get a unique side profile view of George Washington.

This trail is literally in our backyard. It is 109 miles long and connects Deadwood to Edgemont. Hill City is at about the mid-point. The trail alignment includes four tunnels and more than 100 converted railroad bridges. There are fifteen established trailheads spaced along the route, all of which include vehicle parking. The trail surface is packed crushed limestone and gravel. A very popular and user friendly trail. People come from all over the world to mountain bike or hike it.

Food Scene

Great food! Best restaurant in South Dakota. Amazing desserts too. Go early, get your name on the waiting list, go window shop the stores nearby, then eat. Bring cash. They don't take credit cards.

This is close by and well worth a visit to try some really unique and award winning wines. Great lunch choices too. Their most popular wine was actually "made" by mistake. I would call ahead to see if you need a reservation. It gets busy there... I'm not a wine drinker but I still enjoy this place :)
