Food Scene

Absolutely nothing pretentious about this neighborhood institution where the locals have been going to get a early morning sugar buzz and coffee for generations. In addition to the best french donuts around they have a pretty good lunch menu.

Sightseeing

Mission San Francisco de Asis was founded 1776. Its probably better to go see it as a tourist now than it was for the native Californians then. But go. Its interesting and a good way to learn a little about the native, mexican, and spanish influence on bay area culture.

Getting Around

BART. 20 minute walk down College Avenue. Best way to get to SF. Trains run every 20 minutes and stop around midnight--best to make sure you are in the station by 11 pm. If returning late at night and don't want to walk, you can usually find a taxi waiting by the station.

You can walk to this car rental place in about 20 minutes! They tend to have crappy hours and frequently don't have the car you requested (though they won't insist you pay more for a larger car) but still worth going to them for the location.

Asbhy Bart station is best for going to places along the freemont or Richmond Line. When I take Amtrack (to LA or North, or East) I find it easiest to take BART and catch Amtrack train at the Richmond Station. We are closest to the Emryville Amtrack station but it is harder to get there.

Parks & Nature

Walk to Clark Kerr and go up. We call that mountain "Dwight Hill" from Dwight hill you can hike almost forever. (or at least till you fall over from exhaustion)

Up the street, past Strawberry canyon pool, look for a parking lot on right. This is the trail head for a beautiful hike leading up the north side of Dwight hill. Stay on the main trail as it snakes to the left and you can walk all the way to top of Centenial. If you take one of the small trails off the to right you will likely end up on a Dwight Hill trail
