Mizpah is a cute guesthouse, just off the road when you drive into town, Ada Foah. It is a laid back area, with sunny beaches and a river to take you to one of the islands where people still live the traditional way. In Ada you will find yourself among the local inhabitants. It is not too crowded with too many tourists but also not too remote or dull. In Ada you can swim, fish, hike, cycle or just lay in the sun. There are plenty of restaurants where you can eat local & continental dishes.

El espacio
Mizpah is set up as a place where you will certainly feel at home. You are welcomed to join us in the garden where you can find shade under the mango tree and have a chat with the owner. Or maybe you prefer to sit in one of the living rooms after you have cooked a meal in the shared kitchen. But we can also let somebody come over and prepare for you a nice and healthy local dish. (Breakfast is on request and not included in the price.) We also have a common workplace with chairs and tables where you can sit quietly with your laptop or have meetings with your colleagues. At Mizpah you can easily enjoy the outdoor living of waking up at sunrise, filling your lungs with fresh air, meeting other guests on the compound, explore the area by foot or on the motorcycle and then come back at night to gaze at the starry sky.

Ubicación

Ada Foah, Greater Accra Region, Ghana

First a little bit of history. During the 18th and 19th century the port of Ada use to be an empire on the mouth of the Volta River. Its wealth and influence depended on its various trades routes over water and its access to raw salt. After the colonial wars the influence of the local rulers was diminished. Nowadays, only a few old buildings remember us of that famous past.

Ada Foah is the last town before you hit the beach and attracts domestic and international tourists. Its well-known for its meeting point between the Atlantic ocean and the Volta river. Both waters are suitable for swimming and there are different places where you can enjoy a whole day activities in the sand. You will also find various restaurants and chopbars (roadside sellers of prepared meals) nearby.

Moreover, there is also a lot of sightseeing to do in this area. For a reasonable fare price you can ride the canoe and visit modern resorts or other islands where people still very much live according to their culture and tradition. But also the central market is worth a trip where you can observe how ordinary people do trade and get by. They rely a lot on agriculture, fishery and forestry for their basic income. Salt, crabs, tilapia and other fish are therefore popular commodities.

Daily live Ada Foah is very relaxed, except once a year during the festival Asafotufiami, an annual celebration of the military achievements of the Ada Empire back in the days. It always begins the first Thursday of August and continuous throughout the weekend with cultural events and traditional ceremonies. Nowadays the festival attracts a lot of tourists and commercial activities. Therefore it is wise to book a room in advance.
