WHAT: the Lavvu Arctic Camp, a lively experience in a lively community in the region of Finnmark, in Norway, 400 km north of the Arctic Circle.

HOW: The camp. Three small Lavvu, made with organic cotton, heated by high efficiency stoves, reindeer skins and a big one for cooking and socializing around a bonfire.

Local food from the local farmers and herders, fish, zero waste, composting toilets and a polar greenhouse to produce our own vegetables. And a wooden cabin for a healthy breakfast.

El espacio
The Lavvu Arctic Camp is located in a beautiful pine and birch forest. You can reach the camp walking 50 mt. Three tents, the Lavvu, the tipi like Sami tent used in the Arctic for more than 8000 years, 3 meter diameter and 260 cm high, will wellcome you. Inside the tent you will find a wood burning stove, two bed made like the old Sami tradition, birch branches under reindeer skins, and Fjällräven-26 sleeping bags. We provide also the liners. They are the best bedding for this weather keeping you warm even at -20 Celsius degrees. You can make your tea with the included stove boiler.
In the hytte, the wooden cabin, we will share a super healthy breakfast with local wild salmon, or local organic cheese and milk and eggs, locally baked bread, and more.
In the bigger Lavvu tent, 4 mt diameter, we will socialize in the evening, waiting for the Northern Lights.
You can relax in the sauna and hot shower room. The water will be made by you, melting snow on the stove. Then a jump in the snow will cool your body. In the warm and relax room you will take your time to recover from an incredible free ride run, sea to summit, or sleddogging, or just skiing or snowshoeing in the woods.
A composting toilet, not heated, but with a view, will make you test your comfort zone. Normally, funny to say, it is one of the most enjoyed experiences at the LAC!

Acceso de los huéspedes
The cabin for breakfast or relaxing, the kitchen, the sauna and dry room, the toilet. And the Lavvu tents. Of course!

Otros aspectos a destacar
Best months for Northern Lights are November till first half of April, then the night will disappear. Skiing with a front lamp sea to summit and back, with northern lights, can be a crazy, unforgettable experience. As well sleddogging on the Finnmarksvidda, one of the widest and wildest plateau in Europe. Kiting, kayaking, whale watching, and of course skiing slowly in the forest or along the fjords. Temperature can vary in the range of -5 Celsius till -25 Celsius during all the winter. It is very dry so the cold perception is not so strong. Clothing is very important. Layering is the key. Wool is preferably, no cotton on skin, it is hydrofil, and wet will not protect you. Gloves, better mittens, wool socks, and boots two size bigger will give you free move to keep your toes warm. It is not so different than the Alps in winter, but much drier.

Langfjordbotn , Finnmark, Noruega

Magic Forrests, many birds, eagles, Arctic foxes, elks, reindeers in the plateau, and the fjords.. salmons, orcas, whales..difficult to describe with words.. and a lots of wonderful huskies. These are our neighbors!
Also we have one of the biggest glaciers in Norway. It is a winter paradise. So wild and beautiful. The last real wilderness of Europe.
Langfjordbotn is a little sparse community with nice people coming from all over the world. About 70 persons, and 200 dogs. To say nothing about the thousands reindeers, difficult to see in winter because their are high in the Finnmarksvidda plateau.
Around the Camp just trees, but 15 minutes easily skiing down or walking, to the fjord we have a wonderful family run Cafe and restaurant, serving only local and organic food, selected and prepared with love by Randi Karlstrøm, the soul and hearth of the local community, where you can meet locals and nice persons from all around the planet . Not to be missed! And then Parken, a wonderful farm where we get our organic super cheese, milk and eggs, with the famous Parkengårdhusky Husky Kennel, run by Arne Karlstrøm and Marianne Skjøthaug, and family the most famous mushers family in Scandinavia.

I am an environmental activist. I do projects to promote sustainable living on this beautiful planet, and therefore I travel by fair means, no engines, sailing, rowing, skiing, biking and snow kiting. I previously worked in architecture and art. Loving and living life, and silence, on water and frozen water. I like and need respectful persons, attend, curious, openminded, and no drugs or alcohol addicted or consumers.. With less we can do more.

At the Lavvu Arctic Camp we would like to share with you the concept of dwelling in the Arctic being a real person in a real environment, and not simply a ‘consumer abroad’.
We live in a society where images are literally overwhelming us. It is a Media bombing. I think that returning to tales, to telling people stories, to becoming, each of us again, a storyteller can change our perception of life and can move us to a better understanding of the real world and how we should behave in it.
At the Lavvu Arctic Camp we will offer you excursions (to be booked in advance and not included in the price) during which you will be guided and inspired by some of the best guides of Norway. Our team includes Marianne Skjøthaug and Arne Karlstrøm, two of the most experienced mushers and sleddog guides of Scandinavia. Marianne was Sleddog World Champion in 2011 and Arne is a veteran, having participated more than 20 times at Finnmarksløpet, a 1000 km Arctic race which is truly one of the most challenging competitions on the planet.
Also on our team is Tore Karlstrøm, a climbing and ski guide born in Lanfjordbotn. Tore will guide you in full safety on ski excursions on the mountains and glaciers, as well as on a multitude of other unique outdoor adventures such as kayaking trips in the fjords. We also offer snow kiting and sailing experiences for which you will be provided with experienced instructors and guides.
I myself was born and grew up in the Alps, spending more than 200 days a year on the glaciers. Inspired by a lifelong passion for water, I also have sailed and rowed thousands of miles. I will be happy to share with you all my experiences of a life spent sailing, rowing and skiing, all the while teaching you how to feel safe and comfortable in the Arctic and on the water.
