Design Cottage Close to Icelandic Countryside & Reykjavik

Step into one of the oldest homes in town, dating from 1884. Curated by the owners of the design studio Reykjavík Trading Co., The Garden Cottage has been completely remodeled to provide a unique feeling, with a lot of the furniture handmade or meticulously crafted and selected from their travels to California, Scandinavia & Mexico. The land behind The Garden Cottage is home to their designed greenhouse, communal garden, chickens and their most recent addition, The Shed which is their workshop / shop where you can visit for a coffee, buy pieces or see their process of making objects. Curated by the owners & designers of Reykjavík Trading Co. (an Icelandic / California homeware company) the Garden Cottage is their first project of creating a home space for guests to experience a unique & cozy feeling while visiting Iceland. The bottom floor of the 1884 built home has been completely remodeled for guests. Everything in the home has been either made by hand by R.T.Co. or selected from their collection of preferred products & appliances. Anthony Bacigalupo & Ýr Káradóttir, the owners of The Garden Cottage, live & work in the separate upper part of the historic home & their R.T.Co. workshop is located in the back of the garden for guests to visit, learn about the pieces being crafted, or just to have a cup of coffee. We wanted to create a place for guests to experience "slow living" & create a special stay. Having designed spaces for hotels, cafes, bars we decided to put our inspiration & collection into this project & build something completely one-of-a-kind in Iceland. The Garden Cottage includes: - Fresh free-range eggs from the hens in garden - Bosch & Smeg appliances - Aeropress & grinder for coffee - Art pieces by a selection of Icelandic artists - Simple white noise machines with USB charging ports - King & Queen-sized Simba mattress with luxury down pillows & duvets - Wifi & Bluetooth Speaker - Backyard Filson horseshoe set - Weber Smokey Joe BBQ - Yoga mat upon request - Conveniently located across the road from the town's main bus terminal which will take you to Reykjavík & beyond For families: - Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair & Stokke cradle upon request - Bugaboo stroller upon request - BloomBaby lounger chair upon request Note: By law Iceland is requiring all Airbnb's to register their property legally to keep quality, standards & ethics high. Most properties are not registered. Our registration number is HG-00003324 Our guests have the whole bottom house to themselves, with a selection of curated magazines, books & products from R.T.Co. & other designers. The home was built in 1884 & we have been remodeling & bringing back the style it once was but also bringing back the garden & farm style that was once so prominent back in the day. We believe in hospitality to the fullest which sadly doesn't exist anymore in places. Since we live on the property we can answer any questions you have or have you in for a coffee if you need help deciding your journey in Iceland. The cottage is in the oldest part of Hafnarfjörður, a small harbor town. There are great farm-to-table restaurants, bakeries, live music, artist studios and swimming pools nearby. It’s conveniently located across the road from the town’s bus terminal. The house has three stories but is broken into two flats- we live on the upper floors with our children with separate driveway and front door- but we are here for anything you need or to have a coffee in the greenhouse! Our little town can be easily walked around & explored. Shuttle stops for airport & Blue Lagoon are 3 minutes walk next to the ocean & the bus terminal into Reykjavík is close as well.

Sun Voyager

Steel sculpture resembling a dreamboat, symbolizing hope, freedom, and undiscovered journeys

Resumido por la IA

At Sun Voyager you can stand right beside one of Reykjavík’s most iconic sculptures, a stainless-steel “dream boat” and ode to the sun that symbolizes hope, progress, freedom, and the promise of undiscovered territory. It looks like a Viking ship, but it was created as a dreamboat, not a Viking vessel, and is one of the city’s most photographed artworks. Come at sunset for reflections on the water, clear views of Mt. Esja across the bay, and striking coastal photos.

Open-air museum showcasing historic Reykjavik architecture, lifestyle, and interactive exhibits

Resumido por la IA

At Árbær Open Air Museum you can walk through a village of more than 20 restored old houses, step inside turf homes, the general store, blacksmith’s smithy, church, and even Iceland’s first Boy Scout hut to see how people in Reykjavík lived and worked in earlier times. In summer, meet grazing animals, join exhibitions and seasonal events, and see staff in early-1900s traditional clothing. Kids get plenty of hands-on activities, and everyone can refuel with pancakes in Dillon’s house, hot chocolate, waffles, and traditional baked goods, then browse the small gift shop. Nearby, relax in the Árbæjarlaug geothermal pool or explore Elliðaárdalur for hiking and biking.

Hallgrimskirkja

Iconic Lutheran church with a modernist facade, offering panoramic views from its tower

Resumido por la IA

Inside Hallgrimskirkja you can experience a serene, minimalist interior and a massive pipe organ of over 5,000 pipes. Ride the elevator up the 73–74.5 meter tower for a 360° view over Reykjavík, the surrounding mountains, ocean, and even fireworks around New Year on a clear night. Take time to study the church’s distinct basalt-lava-inspired architecture, a hallmark of architect Guðjón Samúelsson. Outside, see the Leifur Eiríksson statue, gifted by the United States in 1930.
