Our walking tour will take you through Bangkok’s historic Yaowarat neighbourhood - this is one of the old city's most fascinating areas with narrow lanes and hidden markets that feel a world away a from Bangkok's modern skyscrapers and malls. We’ll meet at Hua Lamphong Railway Station, more than 100 yrs old and one of Bangkok’s architectural gems just a short walk to our first stop at Wat Traimit. Here we'll share the story of how the world's biggest solid gold seated Buddha was lost for years. We'll stop by the Yaowarat Chinese Heritage Centre to learn how this community is integral to Bangkok's history and trade economy - you'll see as we walk through the area that Thai culture has blended with Chinese traditions and that in some ways today's way of life isn't so different from the old days. Next - an old-school coffee shop where we'll soak up the local atmosphere & try a traditional Thai "coffee in a sock". Then on through old back streets passing shops selling fresh & dried food, religious goods and stuff you've never seen before - filling up on street-food along the way. We'll visit the bustling Wat Mangkon - a completely different atmosphere to the temple where we started - and more street food vendors on every side! Hungry yet? We'll end with a cold beer or cocktail at our favourite Skybar in Bangkok - we think the view at this hidden gem beats all the famous ones.
Pam, Pat & Team
We - Pam, Pat, Nai, Mond & A - are the Bangkok Urban Adventures team. We're licensed local guides based in the old city who've been exploring the backstreets of Yaowarat for years. This is one of the most vibrant parts of the city, often overlooked by visitors, but always a highlight for those who go. Thai traditions have blended with Chinese culture over generations - this is one of the oldest and biggest overseas Chinese settlements in the world and probably the most integrated into local culture. It's the heart of Bangkok's legendary street food scene so let's snack our way around! Our walking tour is at the heart of Bangkok's street food scene, but it's more than just tasting delicious food and meeting the people who make it - it’s all that plus history, culture and local life. This is one of the oldest and biggest Chinatown's in the world and the blend of Thai and Chinese cultures is an important part of Bangkok's history and economy. The view from our favourite Skybar is the perfect place to end our exploration.

Please cover your shoulders & knees for temples. Most street food isn't vegetarian friendly, we try our best to find substitutes but options are limited. Some stops won't have anything for vegetarians so you might have to wait for the group to taste here. You may join an Urban Adventures group.
